Niamh Dobie is an exceptional vocalist and musician from the West of Glasgow.........
Q1. Provide a short bio about yourself
Niamh Dobie, 19, singer/songwriter from Glasgow. I regularly do bar gigs with myself and a guitarist. My set is a mix of covers of pop/classic bar tunes that everyone knows and loves, especially after a few pints. I also gig under the name of Riley where I perform my original material. I was a Capital Fm finalist for they’re SSESpotlight competition and have supported Tide Lines, Sean Kennedy and Jordan MacKampa to name a few. I’m currently working on releasing my own music whilst gigging whenever and wherever.
Q2. People would be surprised to know what about you
I have been gigging and songwriting ever since I was 13 and since, I’ve performed in both New York and Toronto as well as Finland, Estonia. I played all over Scotland in March supporting Tide Lines on tour.
Q3. Favourite place to gig?
My favourite place to gig is either the Lime Kiln as the atmosphere is more relaxed and the staff take good care of us. I also love The Hoolet’s Nest as everyone is up for a good time and they always sing along. They really appreciate the live music which makes our job much more enjoyable.
Q4. Biggest music influence?
My biggest music influence is Joni Mitchell for her songwriting and Taylor Swift for her performance.
Q5. Favorite current song?
Favourite current song is Brooklyn in the Summer by Aloe Blacc as it is uplifting and fun to listen to.
Q6. Favourite heckle at gigs?
“Your voice is lovely hen but your guitarist could be better”
My dad sometimes gigs with me and we always find this funny as, in my opinion he’s one of the best, especially in Glasgow.
Q7. One item you would couldn’t live without?
Em, my voice, is that an item? I’d be really stuck without it.
